Hollywood Rant: Why Keanu? Why?

I am starting a new series of blogs called "Hollywood Rant." They are about how Hollywood can't seem to make decent movies anymore. Here goes...

In case you haven't heard, they are making an live-action adaptation of the Japanese Anime Cowboy Bebop. First of all, Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite animes. It was the first series I watched so I am attached to it. Now, there have been rumors floating around that Keanu Reeves will be playing Spike Spiegel. Well...the rumors are true! And this makes me so mad! BOOERNS! Keanu only has one acting style...think Matrix and Bill & Ted...one word comes to mind "Whoa." UG! It is going to be so lame! Keanu is such a stiff actor, however, I did like those 2 movies, but he just doesn't fit Spikes character. Chalk another one up to Hollywood for making another crappy adaptation.

After getting really upset I decided to kick back and watch one of my favorite TV series, Flight of the Conchords. That show is great! Great actors and funny songs, always entertaining. And then I got to thinking, Bret looks like Spike, he's got the hair. He would just have to beef up a bit, then I could see him playing Spike in the live-action Cowboy Bebop Movie. He would have to talk in an American accent though. Still, I think it would be awesome if Bret McKenzie starred in a big budget movie.BOO Keanu! Like Whoa! This movie will be awful with me in it. Just check out my crappy hair.
Give Bret a chance! He's got the hair and he can act. If your movie fails Keanu, Bret and Jemaine will sing a song about your failure.
Bret McKenzie for Spike!

Thanks for reading my Hollywood Rant about Cowboy Bebop the live-action movie. Oh Hollywood Filmmakers, how you have dissappointed me yet again. Remember Daredevil, Elecktra, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li? Those movies blew.

Look-a-likes

Has anyone ever told you that you looked like someone they know, or that you remind them of someone. I find it interesting who people think you resemble. Be it a real person or a cartoon character. Here are a few that people have told me. You be the judge of who you think I most resemble.
Lindsay Lohan from Freaky Friday - Skater/punk style clothing. Red hair. Tomboy.
Avril Lavigne from the early days - Skater/punk style clothing. Dark Makeup. Tomboy.
Robin Sena from Witch Hunter Robin - A craft user of fire. She hunts down witches. She is quiet most of the time and occassionally wears glasses. Wears a Victorian era dress and a long blood red jacket.Haruko Haruhara from Fooly Cooly (Furi Kuri) - Crazy extraterrestrial investigator that is off the wall and random. She rides a yellow Vespa and has a bass guitar. She often wears goggles and a scarf.
Mai from My-Hime - A student at a school for HIME's. She is magical girl that can create a weapon out of thin air and fight off monsters. She is caring and hardworking. Red hair.
Nami from One Piece - Red hair, big mouth, a bit crazy. I haven't seen much of this show, so I am not sure what her character is like.
Maka Albarn from Soul Eater - She is a hardworking student that weilds a demon weapon to fight evil. She is level-headed and stubborn. She is a powerful fighter.
Jessie from Toy Story 2 - A yodeling cowgirl. Can do things herself. Fun, but serious. Kari from The Incredibles - The tomboy babysitter. She has blue eyes, braces, freckles and red hair. She talks out of the side of her mouth a bit. She talks about Mozart making babies smarter. In Jack-Jack Attack she has eyelashes, but in The Incredibles Film she does not.

Humm....Lindsay Lohan, meh. Avril Lavigne, very flattering. Characters from anime series, interesting. Out of all these, I think that I most resemble Kari from the Incredibles. When I first saw this movie in the theater and saw her, I was a bit shocked. She totally (to the T!) looks like me when I was in Junior High School. The hair, the braces, the clothes, and the way she talks.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Movie Trailer

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD

X-Men Origins: Wolverine looks like it is going to be an awesome movie. With a well rounded cast a great director, and hopefully a good story, they will be able to pull it off. Hugh Jackman is a great Wolverine and he is the producer of the film as well. I loved the first 2 X-men movies, and the 3rd one X-Men: The Last Stand blowed!!! A crappy director and a cheesy script were the major downfalls to this film. Brett Ratner totally botched it and why in the crap did Bryan Singer have to leave to film Superman?...we will never know. One thing is for sure is that Brett Ratner should stick to filming Rush Hour movies.

I AM A GAMBIT FREAK!

Now, my 2 favorite X-Men characters are Wolverine and Gambit. I am a huge fan of Gambit. He's got an awesome accent, he is a Ragin' Cajun from New Orleans, he's got an awesome trench coat, cool eyes, he plays cards and he is a great fighter. I own all the Gambit Comic books of the original series and I am a little upset at the person that they picked to play Gambit for this Wolverine Origins movie. Lame teeny bopper Taylor Kitsch from Friday Night Lights. Ug, he is too young and his nose isn't as prominent as Gambit from the Comic books and cartoon series.

In X-Men: United the name of Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, is seen on the computer screen when Mystique breaks into the underground facility. In X-Men: The Last Stand there was suppose to be a cameo of Gambit played by stuntman James Bamford, but the scene was cut.

It was also rumored that Gerard Butler, Bailey Chase, James Franco, Channing Tatum, and Josh Holloway were considered for the role of Gambit. Out of all those considered I think that Josh Holloway would have fit the bill. He looks like the character and has a southern accent like the character as well.

All I have to say is that Taylor Kitsch better do a good job.

Something else bugs me about the previews, seeing the Gambit character and all. In the comic books and the cartoons Gambits' eyes have black sclera and red iris's, on the film though, his eyes appear normal. That really bothers me because one of Gambits' trademarks are his devilish red eyes.

Twilight Movie Review - May contain spoilers

I have read the books and I went into this movie a little skeptical with medium to high expectations. I came out of the theater thinking that they totally could have done better. It was an okay film, entertaining, but left me feeling like there was something missing. I sat there watching it and hoped that it would get better, but it didn't. And as always...the books are better.

First of all, the good...
The actors they chose for the cast were perfect. One word....Carlisle...mmm yeah. Anyway, They got to the main points of the story. The action sequences are pretty good. The baseball scene is the best. The costumes and makeup are good. The music was good.

Now the bad...
The Director sucks...she has done a lot of "indie" films and you can see it play out here. The direction of the actors was kind of bad. There were alot of strange akward pauses, actions and the actors seemed to hesitate with their lines. And some of the lines were so cheesy and laughable. The relationship between the 2 main characters wasn't as strong as it was in the books. There a lot of little moments that Bella and Edward share and it hardly stopped on those. The film style is atrocious. Going with the directors favorite "indie" style, Most shots are handheld and there are way too many closeups. The vehicles don't completely match the description of what is in the book, Bellas truck is suppose to be an older Chevy truck. For the sake of time, A LOT was cut out...and I mean ALOT...It seemed like a bunch of clips edited together and it was very choppy. The story didn't flow well and it left alot out. For people who haven't read the books I am sure it was hard to figure out what was going on. The artsy end credits were lame.

What could have been better....
Different director. Someone who has had experience directing an epic type of film. Get a different DP or Camera Operator. Put the camera on a freakin' tripod and hold still!!! Get different screen writers. Make the story flow better and stick to the story for that matter. Develop the characters a bit more and give them more screen time, they barely scratched the surface with the Cullen family. They could have put more emphasis on the song that Edward plays on the piano, or introduce it in a different way and make it the theme for the series, sort of like how Harry Potter has a theme throughout the films. Also Edward hums a lullaby to Bella and that isn't even in the film...that is like a huge part of the books! They should have made this film with a similar style as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or even Spiderman and X-men. I mean, it is an epic book! Tons of people have read it and support it, so why did they make this film with such a low budget???

All in all this film needed better direction, camera work and screenwriting.
I give it a rating of 2 1/2 STARS.

Well, that is my review. Take it as you will. Please don't send me hate mail, the expressions and views of this entry are opinions.
